A Note from tweaker
There were so many more mixes this time (600!) and I really wanted to listen to them all. It's the least I can do since so many people took the time to do a remix for me.So you know, just as I did for the first contest, I was judging on use of my source material (not focused on how much they used but how they incorporated the various song samples within their own sounds and parts), overall uniqueness of their personal style, technical skill (are loops and riffs in time, are parts in key, editing, arrangement, etc.) and lastly I guess just a bit of my own personal taste.
About the Contest
"2 am wakeup call" includes a wide range of guest vocalists, including David Sylvian, Will Oldham, Robert Smith, Mellowdrone, Nick Young, and Jennifer Charles. The track offered for remixing here at ACIDplanet.com, "It's Still Happening," features Hamilton Leithauser of the Walkmen.Chris continues on the recording of the album: "When collaborating with the guest singers, I explained what my inspiration was and only gave them the directive 'What keeps you up at night? And what do you dream about?' What you hear lyrically on the album is how each singer interpreted the music and direction.
"The new CD marks a more mature musical direction for me. Where the first record was more about programmed noises, this CD captures emotional, human performances and instrumentation — notably live drums, acoustic guitar, piano and glockenspiels.
"When you listen to this, I hope you enjoy the journey. Listen late at night!"
When you're through listening, burn a little more midnight oil remixing "It's Still Happening".

About the Artist
A founding member of Nine Inch Nails, Chris Vrenna's alter ego tweaker delivers its first new album in three years. The CD, "2 a.m. wakeup call", is the follow-up to Tweaker's acclaimed 2001 release, "The Attraction to All Things Uncertain". "2 am wakeup call" was released in April 2004 on the Waxploitation label.ACIDplanet citizens are no strangers to Chris' vast output. If you're involved in the production and remixing worlds, you will inevitably come cross Chris' work. He has worked with U2, David Bowie, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Nelly Furtado, Xzibit, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie amongst many others. His work on video game soundtracks, including Doom III, American McGee's Alice, Enter The Matrix, Tabula Rasa and Area 51, have their own cult followings.
Here's Chris on the making of "2 a.m. wakeup call": "Where the first album dealt with one concept (one man's journey through life to find contentment), '2 a.m. wakeup call' is more of a concept within a concept.
"It's a nighttime record about dreams, nightmares, and insomnia — things that keep us up at night.
"My wife was suffering a long bout of insomnia, where she would bolt awake every night, strangely, at exactly the same time — 2 a.m.. It led to me sharing her insomnia night after night and I wound up staying up with her and discovered that when the world-at-large was fast asleep I had unearthed a wealth of creative energy in myself. These were the hours when most of the work on '2 a.m. wakeup call' occurred."
