About the Artist

The media entity known as The Project is comprised of two distinct and established Jazz and Electronica producers: Robert Bond and Dustin Michael. Together, they build on each other's experience and talent to create and push the envelope of how music is composed and constructed. The main focus of The Project is the experimentation and evolution of music through varied improvisational and production techniques. Using what is considered Jazz as the foundation, The Project pushes forward by incorporating countless other compositional styles and elements into their intense productions.

ROBERT BOND:

Robert Bond, originally from Nashville, has been performing, producing, and writing throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan, for most of his life. He is a trained and accomplished percussionist, and has been playing drums professionally for over 25 years. He is also a renowned producer in most areas of music but mainly focuses his personal attention on experimental forms of jazz and electronica.

His previous experience includes production work and performances with Hitoe, Diana Yukawa, The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Symphony Orchestra, Liberty Horses (U.K.), The Lion King, Tracy Nelson, Bo Diddley, Nami Hotatsu (Japan), Rough Trade Records, Virgin Records France, Experimental Division, and many others.

Robert is presently writing and producing Drum&Bass with electronica producer Jan Pulsford, remixing tracks for Polish jazz diva Anna Maria Jopek, writing and recording with jazz Hammond organist Moe Denham, composing media for Metro Films in Poland, and writing and recording with The Project for Dustin Michael and the Experimental Division in the U.S. He presently divides his time between Nashville and Warsaw.

DUSTIN MICHAEL:

Dustin Michael is the CEO and Executive Director of the Experimental Division Nashville record label and media group, as well as a producer of music and media, a songwriter, and DJ. His record label conducts business throughout the world and boasts an international roster of elite artists, producers, and DJs. The Experimental Division is also well recognized for its ties throughout the media community and entertainment industry. Recent productions include media featured in cinematic releases on Warner Brothers and Fox Searchlight Pictures from DJ Daddy Bob, and XDN performances with artists such as Paul Oakenfold, Sandra Collins, DJ Rap, and DieselBoy.

Although Dustin writes and produces musical styles ranging from Country to Rock n' Roll, and Classical to Folk, his true love remains with Experimental forms of Electronica, Jazz, and World Music. His live performances focus around Improvisational Jazz and Spoken Word, and his DJ sets are primarily based on Tribal, Latin, World, and Jazz in House formats. In addition to his involvement with XDN and its international business and promotion, Dustin is currently occupied with the production of The Project's new full-length Experimental Jazz album.

BONUS: Holmes Ives (aka Oko Tek) on Bedrock Records and www.perceptual.net, has submitted a bonus pack of loops for The Project remix contest. Ives is one of the biggest names in progressive dance music and is renowned throughout the EDM industry, and has left his mark under the monikers of Memnon, Oko Tek, Aurora and OVA with remixes of BT, Moby, Lake Trout and many others. Currently Ives is releasing several new albums ranging in styles from classical to downtempo chill to ambient and drum'n'bass. You can learn more about Ives and purchase his works at www.perceptual.net. The samples are not part of the project, but offered to help take your remix in new directions.

Tips

At 12:00 a.m. midnight PST on Saturday, December 30, 1899, the contest will be closed and no further uploads will be accepted. If you are new to ACIDplanet, you should create an account and upload a song as soon as possible so that you can work out any problems with uploading that you may encounter. Also, uploading a song can take a considerable amount of time. It's better not to wait until the last few hours of the contest to start uploading your entry.

Entrants must upload a Windows Media format or Real Media format version of their entry first. You will not be able to upload any additional formats after the contest closes, so if also you want to upload an mp3 version, please allow enough time to upload them both before the contest closing time.

No Links? If you do not see the "zip" links to the contest loops, it may be because you are running firewall or security software with Ad Blocking turned on. If so, please temporarily turn it off and the links should appear.

What is the .acd file in the sample remix? The .acd file is an ACID project file that contains a sample remix made from eight to ten of the contest loops. It can help you learn how to use ACID, or give you ideas about remixing the track. You don't need to use it, but you'll at least want to download the sample remix so that you get the loops.

Can't open the ACID file? The ACID project file (.acd file) is in ACID 3.0 format. It can be opened in ACID 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0, but not in ACID 1.0 or 2.0. If you are an ACID 1.0 or 2.0 user and you wish to view this file, you can either upgrade or download the current version of ACID XPress in the Tools area of this page. However, you do not need to view the .acd file to enter the contest. You can simply use the contest loops in any version of ACID or other software.
