Sun Caged Remix Contest

Note from Sun Caged

Hello Friends,

Finally!!! We have been able to take care of our end of the Sun Caged - ACIDplanet Music remix contest. We sincerely apologize for taking so long, but we really do appreciate everyone’s participation, and especially the opportunity given us by acid music. THANKS!

There is no good excuse for why it took us so long, for I believe that even good excuses have an expiration date, but just by way of explanation, several major events have taken place for Sun Caged since the end of the contest. Paul became a first-time dad, Marcel lost his mom, Roel had a bout of Pfeifer’s disease (mononucleosis), together we arranged and made our first appearance in the U.S. (at San Francisco’s “Bay Area Rock Fest II”) etc, etc. And in all of that hullabaloo, our obligation to judge the contest did get overlooked. Again, we apologize.

With no further ado, here are our results: (our judging was based foremost on professional sound quality, and secondly on original use of our material.)

Thanks again to all the contestants, and to all those who have listened to and supported the project, and especially to Voxana for getting it all started!
Sincerely,
Paul, Marcel, René, Roel & Roel of Sun Caged

Grand Prize Winner

A Fair Trade (Rerender) by Manoptic / Rerenders - listen
Manoptic will receive a Sun Caged T-Shirt and our Album Artemisia from us, plus the grand prize from ACIDplanet.com. (please send us your t-shirt size)

Runner Up

We were told we did not have to pick a runner up, but as a consolation for us taking so long, we decided to do so anyway. And to this contestant we would also like to send a copy of our album. For coming up with a remix that was really out of the box (at least as far as our expectations) showed original use of our material and also brought a smile to our faces, the runner up is:
A Fair Trade (((L Lectro MiX))) by ELecter - listen

Grand Prize Winner

Vegas Pro
Cinescore
Four Theme Packs
Sony Walkman MP3 Video Player ($179)
Merchandise from Sun Caged

About the Band

Sun Caged formed in the spring of 1999. Operating as a studio-project at first, the band members decided to transform Sun Caged into a full-time band when guitarist Marcel Coenen's band Lemur Voice broke up in the summer of 2000.

After some demo releases between 2000 and 2002, the band signed a record deal with Finnish Lion Music for worldwide release of their debut album. Soon after, the band signed a contract with Marquee/Avalon Records for Japan.

The debut album, mixed by progressive rock mastermind Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon / Star One / Stream Of Passion), was recorded in early 2003 and released on October 22nd 2003.

From late 2001 on, Sun Caged start building up an impressive status within their genre by playing lots of shows, of which several were remarkably sizable. The interest shown by bookers and fans of progressive metal grew considerably. This also lead to several interviews in prominent magazines and to some shows as support act of bands like VandenPlas and Queensryche.
Those who try to describe Sun Caged's music will find this task to be considerable.

Influences range from progressive metal to fusion and jazz, and atmospheric and ambient jaunts. The band's progressive blend is going to excite lots of listeners because of its diversity and excitement.

Sun Caged has been compared to artists such as Ayreon, Meshuggah, Iron Maiden, Kansas, Styx, Faith No More, Liquid Tension Experiment, Dream Theater, Pain Of Salvation and Cynic.

The band released their second album “Artemisia” in March 2007.
