About the Contest
Nominated as the best new act of 2005 by the Dallas Observer Music Awards, Red Monroe offers up their "Sin City Serenade" for remixing at ACIDplanet.com. Red Monroe's landscape of sound brings together elements of progressive rock, folk and jazz, while ignoring conventional song structures and themes. With almost obsessive attention to tone, this quintet from Dallas, TX has fused their listening influences into captivating and polarizing music.About the Artist
Red Monroe is:Eric Steele - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Andrew Snow - Lead Guitar
Matt Moffitt - Keyboards, Second Vocals
Jeff Gilroy - Drums
Neal Wadley - Bass Guitar
Red Monroe's sound is nearly impossible to categorize. Incorporating elements of folk, rock, punk, jazz, and techno, the band emphasizes the function of its art rather than its form. With the progressive mentality of Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and The Velvet Underground, Red Monroe fuses its individual band members' diverse influences into polarizing, yet captivating music. An experiment in eclecticism, the band attempts to express the sentiment and creativity of each individual songwriter. This is a band with something to say, lyrically and musically, and with the courage and commitment to say it. To see Red Monroe live is to grasp the depth of the experiment. Considering all songs are written live in "the room", it should come as no surprise that a Red Monroe show is big, bursting with creative energy.
Meeting on a Train, the band's debut album on 3Concentric Records, was recorded at various locations in Dallas, Texas, including the house of guitarist Andrew Snow and bassist Neal Wadley. The album is a carefully crafted, raw and daring concept disk that is one part Dylan and two parts Stone Roses. Full, beautifully orchestrated songs are paired with one-take acoustic tracks (Althea / San Bernardino) that have the purity of tone created in "the room". With an ever-expanding landscape of sound and a commitment to exploring every nuance of that sound, this band is diving, eyes closed, into the deep end, writing some great tunes all the way down.
