nice+smooth Ultramedia is Toronto's dynamic collective of artists, dj's, and producers, fusing their talents into a diverse nu-music record label and exquisite ultra-media production agency.

That's what it says on their website. And, judging by the sounds coming out of nice + smooth, it's true.

nice+smooth has released three very successful METRO BREAKS CDs and vinyl releases, and just dropped their fourth d 'n' b compilation, OSCILLATE. Many of the selections on the disk are exclusive and unreleased tracks from some heavy-hitters in the international scene including Visionary (Flex Records / Hustlin' Beats), Illfingas (Furious Records/Vinyl Syndicate), D-Region (Furious), Andy B (Hardleaders), Moonstarr (Compost Records), DYNASTY feat. SUNYA (Furious/Jedi), DJ Freedom, Kinder Atom and others.

Some key cuts from the CD have just been released on 12" vinyl internationally through nice + smooth's sub-label OSCILLATE RECORDINGS. The disc was digitally mixed using ACID PRO 3.0 by nice+smooth's Gerald Belanger, with the usual wide assortment of styles and structures the Toronto DJ is well known for. So you gotta love that.

nice+smooth is offering up three tracks from the OSCILLATE CD for remixing, from three different artists:

Visionary are prolific Toronto producers Marcus Sills and Dave Whalen, who have been releasing rough and steady beats since 1996 through top UK labels Flex and Hustlin Beats, and on Toronto labels On Point, Dub 2010, Division One and Vinyl Syndicate. They also were featured on the three previous nice+smooth Metro Breaks d 'n' b compilations, each time with an exclusive cut. DJ Marcus can be found headlining raves and clubs across Canada with every major player from the UK scene, with detailed weekly reports on his 8-year strong radio show The Prophecy, airing on Toronto station CIUT 89.5 FM. Visionary offers Feel It for your remixing pleasure.

Moonraker are a Boston based live breakbeat outfit currently riding a wave of popularity for their jazzed-out funk-soul mania featuring vocalist Kelli Skaar. The offshoot duo Stuhr are made up of Moonraker's producer Nate Greenberg and Toronto's Dan Chen, who co-wrote and produced this version of their smash single Organic Love, provided here for remixing. The group is continually broadening its fan base with regular performances along the East Coast and in Toronto.

Kinder Atom is the collective of nice+smoothies Gerald Belanger, Chris Drost, Kris Helstrom and Heiki Sillaste. They have always contributed new unreleased tracks for the Metro Breaks compilations and find themselves listening to jungle on long road trips. The Kinder Atom crew is currently assembling their 5th full-length CD for 2003, featuring a wide assortment of psychedelic electronic sounds. Kinder Atom's DB8 is the remix track.

Tips

At 12:00 a.m. midnight PST on Saturday, December 30, 1899, the contest will be closed and no further uploads will be accepted. If you are new to ACIDplanet, you should create an account and upload a song as soon as possible so that you can work out any problems with uploading that you may encounter. Also, uploading a song can take a considerable amount of time. It's better not to wait until the last few hours of the contest to start uploading your entry.

Entrants must upload a Windows Media format or Real Media format version of their entry first. You will not be able to upload any additional formats after the contest closes, so if also you want to upload an mp3 version, please allow enough time to upload them both before the contest closing time.

What is the .acd file in the sample remix? The .acd file is an ACID project file that contains a sample remix made from eight to ten of the contest loops. It can help you learn how to use ACID, or give you ideas about remixing the track. You don't need to use it, but you'll at least want to download the sample remix so that you get the loops.

Can't open the ACID file? The ACID project file (.acd file) is in ACID 3.0 format. It can be opened in ACID 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0, but not in ACID 1.0 or 2.0. If you are an ACID 1.0 or 2.0 user and you wish to view this file, you can either upgrade or download the current version of ACID XPress in the Tools area of this page. However, you do not need to view the .acd file to enter the contest. You can simply use the contest loops in any version of ACID or other software.
