About the Contest
ACIDplanet.com is proud to present "The Next Kind of Blue" remix, a unique opportunity for remixers and music fans. Here's what will happen: over the next five months, we'll offer a track a month from "A New Kind of Blue," in the same sequence they appear on the CD. This month it's "So What." Next month it'll be "Freddie Freeloader." We'll continue like this until the entire album is remixed, creating a third-generation Kind of Blue. Among other prizes, the winning remixes will be included on a compilation CD.
No mega-mixing of tracks. Treat each track uniquely.
Miles Davis created history with "Kind of Blue." Gary Guthrie updated history with "A New Kind of Blue." It's your challenge to take it into the future.

About the Artist
It's the 45th anniversary of the release of "Kind of Blue" and Gary Guthrie has plied his "what if" curiosity by producing one of the more intriguing jazz records of 2004 — "A New Kind of Blue," a fresh version of Miles Davis' classic. Featuring recent Grammy winner Randy Brecker channeling the spirit of Davis, Guthrie's studio group — dubbed "g.org" (pronounced "g - dot - org") — stretches the "New Blue" well past the 45-minute limits of the vinyl LP heyday, brings its production values into the digital realm, plus captures several of the missing ingredients critics have been scratching their head about for years."A New Kind of Blue" was recorded at New York's Sony Studios on April 8-9, 2004 and features Randy Brecker (Brecker Brothers, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Jaco Pastorius, Lou Reed, many others) on trumpet; David Finck (Andre Previn, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr., Sinéad O'Connor, Portishead, many others) on bass; Victor Lewis (Chet Baker, Carla Bley, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Earl Klugh, Joe Sample, many others) on drums; Chuck Loeb (Acoustic Alchemy, Gary Burton, Larry Coryell, Stan Getz, Spyro Gyra, many others) on guitar; Mike Ricchiuti (Patti Austin, Michael Franks, Bob James, Will Lee, David Mann, many others) on piano; and Andy Snitzer (Elvis Costello, Roberta Flack, Bob James, Joshua Redman, Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, many others) on alto saxophone.
The idea to recreate Miles' classic comes from the same person whose pioneering creativity led to radio's highly-successful Classic Hits and Light Jazz formats, as well as the guy who fused together the solo versions of Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" into a number one hit — the original mash-up! This is homage, pure and simple," Guthrie said. "I don't think anyone could ever outshine the original, but if we could bring it new awareness, give it some breathing room or a new audience, then we've done our job."
The CD features the original sequence of 'Blue' tracks, with extended pieces, plus Bill Evans' "Peace Piece," heavily referenced as the prelude to "Flamenco Sketches” and Loeb quoting the original arrangement for Chet Baker's “Alone Together” that Evans used for the structure of “Blue in Green”.
