About the Contest

Calling all beatmakers and rhymesayers! Here’s your chance to collaborate with acclaimed hip-hop producer and longtime Sony Sound Series developer Henry Willis (a.k.a. lukecage). Well versed in both the old and new schools of production, lukecage is a hip-hop mastermind whose chops in the lab extend into classic funk, jazz and new roots styles. You get the entire set of loops from “Scratch,” a hot new lukecage instrumental, plus a trunk full of previously unreleased bonus loops from classic lukecage libraries like Diamond Cuts and Platinum Theory. Use this exclusive lukecage content package to create a fresh new remix of “Scratch” and win the fabulous prizes listed below, but the contest doesn’t stop there!

Winning entries will be chosen not just on the quality of the beats, but the quality of the rhymes. That’s right. If you can spit, throw down your best verse over your “Scratch” remix and transform it into a diamond cut of your own. If you’re lacking in the MC department, use ACIDplanet’s network of creators to find yourself a vocalist. Likewise, if you’re got lyrics for hire and you need a producer, hit the forums in search of the perfect beat. Each entry requires both music and lyrics, and producers can only use the provided loop package. Lukecage himself will be on the judging panel, so don’t sleep and come with your A game!

Don't forget about our Terms of Service/Community Guidelines as you work on your entries, and be sure to choose the appropriate content rating when you upload your collab masterpiece.

About the Artist

Coming up during the reign of X Clan’s “Funkin’ Lesson,” Henry Willis (a.k.a. lukecage) has emerged as a modern day funk hero for hire. Ever since his early days playing in grade school bands alongside Ivan Zawinul (son of the legendary Joe Zawinul), lukecage has been sharpening his musical skills. An accomplished pianist, saxophonist, and percussionist, the young Henry was tutored by Bobby Bradford, whose student roster reads like a who’s who of jazz, including John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

Jumping genres from punk, ska and reggae, to jazz and hip-hop, Henry played in The Bleeding Lizards with Brendon Lynch, The Congregation with Kevin Sandbloom, The Animal Farm with Black Sonshine’s Masauko Chipembere, and Fishbone with Angelo Moore. In the realm of songwriting and arranging, Henry has worked with a diverse sample of soul, funk, and hip-hop artists, including Joi Jones, Kenneth Crouch, Gina Murrell (Daddy Uroy/Amiel Larrieux), Brian Jackson (Gil Scott Heron), and many others. lukecage aspires to change the face of popular music and spark independent thoughts and actions.

The signature lukecage sound can be heard on a number of Sony Sound Series libraries, including Westside Underground, Underground Soundlab, Platinum Theory Hip-Hop, Diamond Cuts, Cinematic Funk, and Flow & Function.
