About the Artist

Shelley Harland (now just Harland) hails from London but now resides in Brooklyn where she writes and produces a unique flavor of electronica: she balances a fine pop aesthetic with languid and sensual musical textures and a dreamy siren's voice.

Harland started making music just a few years ago. She experimented with a four track recorder and guitar, creating sketches of songs. At the same time she collaborated long distance with Australian programmer/producer Andrew Wright. Soon after she realized she had enough material for an album. She hopped a plane to Australia, and, one month later, "Phoelar" was finished. After this experience, Shelley was so taken with the music biz that she immediately grabbed some gear, started working with samples and began creating more music.

"Salt Box Lane," a collection of transfixing electronica, is Harland's second album. The album sounds more like the artistry of an established professional than the sophomore effort from a relative newbie. "Salt Box Lane" delivers songs with meaningful lyrics, driven by emotional strings and piano with flavor crystals of electronic sounds and beats.

Presently, Harland is writing and working with various producers and has recorded vocals with Junkie XL, Joshua Ryan and Delerium.

What is the .acd file in the sample remix? The .acd file is an ACID project file that contains a sample remix made from eight to ten of the contest loops. It can help you learn how to use ACID, or give you ideas about remixing the track. You don't need to use it, but you'll at least want to download the sample remix so that you get the loops.

Can't open the ACID file? The ACID project file (.acd file) is in ACID 3.0 format. It can be opened in ACID 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0, but not in ACID 1.0 or 2.0. If you are an ACID 1.0 or 2.0 user and you wish to view this file, you can either upgrade or download the current version of ACID XPress in the Tools area of this page. However, you do not need to view the .acd file to enter the contest. You can simply use the contest loops in any version of ACID or other software.
