Richard Devine and Josh Kay are guys who know things, secret things, the kind of things that record labels, movie studios, and video game production companies need. Now they’re sharing some of their secrets with you in their two loop libraries: Devine Manuscript and Pulse: Pure Analogue Lifeforms. Listen carefully and you might pick up a trick or two; like the ones that landed them sound design gigs with NIN, Nike, Xbox and PS3.

Richard and Josh have collaborated on the Original Track, "Pulse," for this Composition contest using loops from our new Pulse library, plus a bunch of new and exclusive content found only in this download package! Give the track a good listen, and then take the provided contest download and show these two stellar artists that you’ve got the skills to create an amazing mix of your own. Josh Kay
In 1995 Josh Kay, and his band-mate released a series of records for the US major label Astralwerks under the name Soul Oddity, completely unaware that he was helping to put experimental music back on the map in America. In 1997 after a successful release as Phoenecia on Warp Records, the duo founded Schematic Music Company, the infamous record label which would go on to irrevocably change the landscape of modern music by debuting artists such as Richard Devine, Scott Herren (Prefuse73, Savath & Savalas), Otto Von Schirach, Push Button Objects, and collaborating with the likes of Matmos, Autechre, Jamie Lidell, Matthew Herbert, and Glen Velez to name a few. A turn of events came in 2001 with the release of Phoenecia's Brownout , reviews claimed that this was a new kind of music, cinematic, but in the respect that the music was heavily influenced by the sound design of film, as opposed to the score. This marked a decisive break from Phoenecia's past and set the trajectory for the sound they would continue to develop over the next seven years, time spent primarily scoring film soundtracks, art exhibitions, and performing around the world from Iceland to Australia and everywhere in between. This work is represented Phoenecia's latest albums Echelon Mall and Lewd Archives. In 2007, Josh became a partner at Devinesound, a firm with hundreds of TV, film, and sound design credits for clients such as Nike, Audi, BMW, Scion, Coca-Cola, Lexus, HBO, Sony, and Microsoft XBOX, as well as sound design and content creation for such notable music manufacturers as Korg, Sony, Clavia Nord, Akai, Ableton, Apple, Digidesign, Roland, and Yamaha.
