About to break big on the scene: the hybrid techno/soul/lounge sound of the Baldwin Brothers. The Baldwin Brothers began more than fifteen years ago, when Jason Hinkle and TJ Widner met in junior high. Jason was already playing guitar and bass, and started drums. TJ played piano. Jason's basement was loaded with recording gear, and in no time the duo were experimenting and recording. They gigged throughout high school, recording occasionally.
In the 90's Jason and TJ hooked up in Chicago and began writing and recording together again. They put together a 30 minute set and worked the club scene. After putting some time in, they became a fixture in Chicago's Wicker Park area. Building off that momentum, they released an EP, Funk Shui. Jimmy Deer (bass) and JB Royal (turntables) joined the Baldwin Brothers soon thereafter, and the band is prepared to release Cooking with Lasers on TVT, their full-length debut, which streets on 4/9.
Why are we psyched on the Baldwin Brothers? Because they're HUGE ACID users, that's why. Dig into Cooking with Lasers and feel the vibe. Whether you're an ACID pro or just beginning to string loops together, the Brothers will dazzle ya with their ACID prowess. Cooking with Lasers is required listening for ACID musicians.
It's good for remixing too—they built it in ACID, you rebuild it in ACID. ACIDplanet is offering up "Dream Girl" from Cooking with Lasers, featuring Miho Hatori Of Cibo Matto. It's an aural experience you can't pass up, and a remixing challenge you'd be a fool to let slide by.
