About the Band

auto-auto had been working in the dark for about a year before emerging to release a full length album. Erik and Johan used to live together and had nothing better to do so they started to make music. At the beginning the purpose of the project was never to release anything but as they developed their own style and skills they got in touch with Substream, a new and exciting label in their hometown Gothenburg and the thought of a more serious release emerged in their minds.

During November 2004 the band met an old friend on a café: Philip Linné. For a long time Philip had plans to start a multi-art project where art and media collaborates with an idea of trying to change the local society into something better. They begun to collaborate their plans and the multi-art project auto-auto was officially born.

The music that the band played was originally "synth-pop," but took a more experimental turn. Inspired by everything from punk and goth to pop, ebm, rock and hip-hop the group have started to break down musical conventions to make new and interesting music.

The current release of the band is the full length album "sounds of a new generator" which features 12 tracks. The sound of the album has been described as "Belgian darkness, like early front 242."

The live show is energetic, filled with visuals and twisted political satire.

In 2005 the single Dog from the album was also released and was, like the album, well received by both fans and media and was in December 2005 voted “Best Synth Song of 2005” by the listeners of SiZER - Sweden’s, at that time, only national radio show for alternative electronic music.

December also featured the free download EP "Totem" by the band which contained five new songs and was released for free on the internet together with remix-kits for every song. Totem was the first official release under the new Swedish Creative Commons license, and the release was officially announced by Creative Commons internationally.
