About the Contest
Here’s another one for the remixing history books: ACIDplanet.com® presents Johnny Cash’s “Cry Cry Cry” for remixing.
The backstory: Compadre Records acquired some original early Johnny Cash recordings from Sun Records (who, by the way, use SCS applications). They’ve made a select number of tracks available to top international remix artists to “reproduce” and bring a new, modern sound to.
Note: the source files for this contest are not the clean, separated multi-tracks y’all are accustomed to. These are old-school, full-band-standing-around-one-microphone recordings. Working with these files will truly require skillz.
To hear what other remix artists have done with Johnny Cash tracks, visit Johnny Cash Remixed at www.johnnycashremixed.com. And to learn more about the Johnny Cash Remixed project, check out http://compadrerecords.com/videos/cash.html.
SPECIAL NOTE: the deadline for submissions is October 5th. The winning remix needs to be selected and a hi-fidelity version provided to Compadre Records by the first week of October to insure digital release of the track.

He has overseen remixes of Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, Steppenwolf, Billie Holiday, The Bee Gees and others.
OVERVIEW
Music World licensed 20 classic Johnny Cash tracks from legendary Sun Records (first label home of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roy Orbison, among others). Johnny Cash is an icon of American music. His work has touched every contemporary genre, from Rock to Pop, from Emo to Hip Hop. The exciting possibility presented by the Sun catalog is "what would have been?" These tracks were recorded with Cash's band, the Tennessee Two, and were pure and stark, with only the essentials; guitar, light percussion and Johnny's unmistakable voice and presence. The challenge is to maintain this fantastic charm and personality while filling out the sound and creating bold re-interpretations. The remix producer's reverence and gratitude are essential to the process. The goal is to bring the sensibility and technology of 2008 to recordings universally accepted as timeless with the blessing and support of the custodians of Johnny Cash's legacy.
