They were omnipresent on MTV back in the day. You remember the samples, the video, and the hair. But did you also realize that Information Society has always been on the leading edge of music technology, and is still going strong, this many years into the game? Pure energy, indeed.

InSoc is offering “Baby Just Wants” from their latest release on Dancing Ferret Discs, Synthesizer, for remixing.

About the Band

“Synthesizer” is the first new Information Society album in a decade. During the prior ten years, the band was patiently waiting for the music industry to catch up to it. Information Society was among the first bands ever to add computer-data content to a music CD (back in 1988) and has continued to push the boundaries of technology, not only in the creation of music but in the delivery of it. “Synthesizer” itself is innovative: an album that sounds like classic new wave synthpop…if the genre had just been invented today. It’s fresh and vital but retains all of Information Society’s signature sound.

Although Information Society has always been a “creative collective,” most fans consider the trio of Kurt Harland/Larson, Paul Robb and James Cassidy to be the band’s “classic lineup.” With a platinum album, several Top 10 singles and a number of world tours to their credit, it’s hard to argue. Luckily for fans, this classic lineup is back together, and judging by the reaction from fans at their Madison Square Garden show in July 2007, the group is in fine form.

“Synthesizer” features Kurt, Paul and James as well as other special guests and members of the “InSoc Continuum,” including singer Christopher Anton and even former teen idol Colleen FitzPatrick (aka Vitamin C). Fans of the band’s best-known hits like “What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy),” “Running” and “Think” will find this new album to be familiar without being stale. Those who follow the current crop of electro-pop bands will also find plenty to love about “Synthesizer,” including a greater appreciation of the influence that Information Society had (and still has) on so many successful electronic artists.

Information Society’s new studio album, “Synthesizer,” will be released by Dancing Ferret Discs on October 9th (October 5th in Europe), 2007. An indie label that also enjoys a reputation for innovative ways of reaching new fans, DFD boasts an eclectic selection of artists, including Corvus Corax (medieval), Lunascape (trip hop), Eisbrecher (industrial-metal), and of course, The Cruxshadows. Some of the label’s acts are likely participants in a “Synthesizer” remix album that the band is considering for release in 2008. Fans who can’t wait for the CD to hit the store shelves will be able to buy the album in digital format through all major online outlets on September 4th.

What is the .acd file in the sample remix? The .acd file is an ACID project file that contains a sample remix made from eight to ten of the contest loops. It can help you learn how to use ACID, or give you ideas about remixing the track. You don't need to use it, but you'll at least want to download the sample remix so that you get the loops.

Can't open the ACID project file? The ACID project file (.acd file) is in ACID 5.0 format. It can be opened in ACID 5.0, but not in previous versions of ACID. If you using a previous version of ACID and you wish to view this file, you can either upgrade or download the current version ACID XPress in the Tools area of this page. However, you do not need to view the .acd file to enter the contest. You can simply use the loops in any version of ACID or in any other software.
