In our never-ending quest to provide you with the absolute coolest music to tinker with, ACIDplanet.com® proudly presents the 8MM Remix Contest. Founded by Sean Beavan (who has some serious producer cred, see below), the band just dropped their debut CD and is providing "Stunning" for remixing.
About the Artists
It seems that some bands are formed purely by chance, but others are born out of a more urgent sense of inevitability. While working on Kill Hanna's For Never and Ever, producer Sean Beavan hit a roadblock while recording the song "Kennedy," when the band made the last minute decision to add female backup vocals. With only one day left to record, Sean was unable to secure an available singer. Juliette, Sean's wife, coincidentally stopped by the studio, and was asked to help. Having never sung in front of Sean before, everyone was floored by her sultry yet delicate voice as she recorded the needed parts, inspiring Sean to start a new project. It was at this moment that 8MM was formed.Sean Beavan, who helped forge the Nine Inch Nails sound from stage to studio and has produced/mixed records by Marilyn Manson, No Doubt, and Thrice, quietly self-released 8MM's debut EP, Opener, through the band's website. The band quickly generated a local underground buzz in Los Angeles, attracting the attention of the LA Times. Internet word-of-mouth led to tremendous organic support, including critical acclaim from both artists and influential tastemakers like Nic Harcourt of KCRW. The band ranges 2000 - 7000 plays per day on MySpace and Opener sales continue to increase. The band's dark, sensual sound even found its way to the ears of a promoter in Chile who organized a string of sold-out international performances.
8MM has just released their much-anticipated debut album, "Songs to Love and Die By" on the newly-formed Curb Appeal Records on September 26th. Juliette, described as a cross between Billie Holiday and Jessica Rabbit, weaves her spell through layers of atmospheric sounds and sensual grooves on the ten song album. Just as inevitable as the band's formation and growing acclaim, these songs will surely find their way deep into your consciousness.
Remixes of the first single, "Stunning," will hit clubs later this month. Remixers include influential underground artists such as Jeff Turzo (God Lives Underwater / Wired all Wrong) and Herwig Maurer (Mankind Liberation Front / Smack3000).
Tips
At 12:00 a.m. midnight PST on Saturday, December 30, 1899, the contest will be closed and no further uploads will be accepted. If you are new to ACIDplanet, you should create an account and upload a song as soon as possible so that you can work out any problems with uploading that you may encounter. Also, uploading a song can take a considerable amount of time. It's better not to wait until the last few hours of the contest to start uploading your entry.
Entrants must upload a Windows Media format or Real Media format version of their entry first. You will not be able to upload any additional formats after the contest closes, so if also you want to upload an mp3 version, please allow enough time to upload them both before the contest closing time.
Entrants must provide accurate contact information (valid e-mail and postal address) in their registration at ACIDplanet.com for the purpose of contacting winners. You can update your contact information here.

No Links? If you do not see the "zip" links to the contest loops, it may be because you are running firewall or security software with Ad Blocking turned on. If so, please temporarily turn it off and the links should appear.
What is the .acd file in the sample remix? The .acd file is an ACID project file that contains a sample remix made from eight to ten of the contest loops. It can help you learn how to use ACID, or give you ideas about remixing the track. You don't need to use it, but you'll at least want to download the sample remix so that you get the loops.
Can't open the ACID project file? The ACID project file (.acd file) is in ACID 5.0 format. It can be opened in ACID 5.0, but not in previous versions of ACID. If you using a previous version of ACID and you wish to view this file, you can either upgrade or download the current version ACID XPress in the Tools area of this page. However, you do not need to view the .acd file to enter the contest. You can simply use the loops in any version of ACID or in any other software.
