When it comes time for a concert or TV appearance everyone rehearses on their own to the songs.
Each band member gets to rehearse ahead of time to a song file with absolute perfect timing and mix that has their own parts muted out. It's the ultimate rehearsal scenario and everyone becomes a much better musician as a result of all the woodshedding with perfect tracks. (just like practicing with a metronome but to the songs themselves)
When everyone gets together live to play together in a sound stage for a dress rehearsal before a given event
the resulting instant natural band tightness and chemistry is SO inspiring...it makes the performance ABSOLUTE MAGIC.

I play with a natural feel and rhythmical spirit in my drumming like no other you've ever heard
from the heaviest bonham-style groove, to the most delicate, subtle, dynamic expression.
-I play exactly what the music tells me to play
-I take my cues from the sounds I hear.
-I don't really have a plan or agenda about where I'm going musically.
-I love to play, perform and record.
-I listen to everything going on around me at all times.
-I have great ears and play extremely intuitively.
-I am friendly, kind and 100% professional.
-I play directly from the heart, soul and spirit, not from the mind or ego.
-I don't like to plan, rehearse or be told what to play...
unless you are telling me with your instrument!
I've been playing drums and listening to the greats since I was a little kid of 3 years old, and if I don't know what to do for the song by now it just isn't meant to be. I realize that there are circumstances sometimes when it is truly neccesary to tell me in words what to play. The obvious downside to this scenario is that I have to use my mind to do it rather than playing what comes naturally straight from my heart and soul, and I lose inspiration and interest very quickly at that point.
I want people to understand how to get the most out of me as a creative force, in any artistic endeavor we may embark upon together. What I play depends on what I hear and how it makes me feel.
Spontanaeity, inspiration and creativity rule my world!!
I believe that the key to the ultimate drum sound on tape or disk
lies in the physical properties and precision tuning of the drums themselves,
and the drummers ability to "mix" the drums live as they are played
with precision dynamic performance, rather than close miking
and trying to control every aspect of each drums level and overtone/sustain
with gating and post mixing.
However I do close mic kick and snare
for an extra level of prescense of attack.
I deliver in mixed stero file only
unless other arrangements are made in advance
I have 2 very special drum kits.
One is specialized for studio recordings only. It is a 1970 slingerland kit that I completely custom restored myself from the bare shells up.
I modernized it by filling all the hardware holes in the shells, discarding all the mounting brackets, legs and spurs that were bolted onto to the shells. I then sent the shells out to Ross Garfield, founder of Drum Doctors, who custom precision cut the bearing edges for me. Finally I suspended all the drums from a custom aluminum tube rack that I built from scratch with a spiderweb cradle of bungee cord for each drum.
There is NO hardware whatsoever touching these shells and even the kickdrum is suspended a half inch off the floor.
The drums are now free to resonate in their natural frequency without the dampening effect of all the steel hardware bolted onto them.
They now sing out their true musical tone with a sustain that is unmatched by any other drumset I have ever heard or played.
This kit is for recording only.
It includes 24"kick, 15"rack
18"floor and 20"floor.
I have another drum kit for live shows.
It is my own recreation and exact replica of the legendary 1973 Ludwig amber vistalite set that John Bonham played at Madison Square Gardens for the Led Zeppelin feature film "The Song Remains the Same"
Legendary Led Zepplin drummer John Bonham chose this drum set for a reason... and so did I.
This kit is without a doubt the loudest drum set in the history of rock and roll, but at the same time it can be instantly dropped in volume and intensity to a whisper under the touch of a skilled dynamic hand.
It includes a 26" kick drum, supra-phonic crome snare, 14" rack tom, plus 16"and 18" floor toms.
All the cymbals were specially ordered from the paiste Switzerland main fabrication house for me by Andrew Shreve at Paiste with the exact dimensions and thicknesses of the original bonham line up incl. the original silkscreen outline logos.
I also have a wide range of custom snare drums and a vintage Zildjian cymbal selection. Plus a huge selection of hand drums including one very special ceramic middle eastern hand drum that I can express myself very well with. In fact, I feel I can express myself on this drum as completely as with a full drum kit. I get a full range of tones and velocities out of this beautiful one-of-a-kind hand drum... from the most delicate, subtle, dynamic sounds up to a full-on kick/snare vibe and sound. I can cover any musical style with this drum (even trad. C&W believe it or not) I am an extremely intuitive player who requires little or no rehearsal to fit in ANY sit.
