Notes from The Judges

This was a tough contest to judge - there were several top contenders. Although production was top notch with all the finalists, in the end, it all came down to vocal placement. The arrangement in the winning remix was premier and the vocal placement was near perfect. Much respect to all the AP producers who took time out of their busy lives to contribute to the contest.

About the Song: Hogs

‘Hogs’ is an insightful and honest look into the great American dream of leaving the office cubicle to pursue a new life as a pig farmer. Wrought with the love a man has for his bacon and the apprehension of having to obtain it, ‘Hogs’ tears at the stitches of our mortal awareness, eventually leading us to the ultimate conclusion… Blame it on the Hickory.

About the Artists

When you spit out the corporate stew, rinse your mouth, and are ready to bite into a new possibility…Victory Gin is here.

Hailing from the great garden state of New Jersey, four talented beer-drinking ‘Joes’ have somehow managed to morph a menagerie of sound, style and culture into an unusual new aural animal. Pair that with near-genius songwriting, and you’ve got something slightly special. So, sit back, get comfy and take a big ol’ swig of Victory Gin – you’ll be glad you did.

Production Tips

Nashville Noir and the Experimental Division Nashville are pleased to announce yet another quality remix contest here on AcidPlanet.com. As always, we are looking for the most original and well-arranged remixes in every genre and style imaginable.

Here are a few production tips that are sure to get your remix noticed by the judges and will improve your chances of winning.

  1. Although some contests require that only the contest loops and samples be used, Experimental Division Nashville remix contests are totally free-form. We love when AP producers reach for their hardware, software and sample CDs, ultimately resulting in the total destruction and reconfiguration of the original music. Utilizing the latest sounds in hardware and software is always a big plus.

  2. The judges notice every detail when it comes to vocals – sloppy vocal timing will usually result in the ‘next’ button. Also, tuning and timing the original instruments and drum samples to your remix is extremely important.

  3. Never over-compress your finished remix. Simply hitting your file (ever so slightly) with the Sound Forge “Wave Hammer” usually does the trick. And never upload a remix with a bit rate less than 128kps – doing so poorly represents all your hard work.

We hope these tips have encouraged you to take a closer look at your already superb audio artwork. Best of luck to all the dedicated AP artists and producers who continue to shock and awe the world with their remixed masterpieces!
